Medicare Insurance

Introduction to Medicare

If you are approaching age 65, and getting ready to enroll in Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B, or you are already there, we can help you feel comfortable with the enrollment process. In addition, we can help you explore other Medicare insurance products that may serve your personal needs.  MKE Benefits will work with you to determine the best fit – see below for some brief information on Medicare Insurance Plans. We will be sure that we guide you to what works for your situation, and perhaps most importantly, make sure that you both understand and are comfortable with your new policy. You are not alone in selecting a Medicare plan – we are here to help.

Medicare Part A

Medicare Part A is run by the federal government, and helps cover the cost of inpatient (overnight) hospitalizations. Those who have worked and paid Medicare taxes on their payroll checks for 10 years or more (and their spouse) will get Medicare Part A at no cost. There are no options for Part A, it simply needs to be turned on.

Medicare Part B

Medicare Part B is also run by the government, and it helps cover the costs of outpatient medical care. Doctor visits, stitches, X-rays, and other services that do not require being admitted to the hospital will fall under Part B. There is a premium associated with Part B, which can vary based on income. Like Part A, coverage with Part B is activated, with no options or variables.

Medicare Advantage (Part C)

For many people, Medicare Advantage can be the most efficient way to receive your benefits: administered by a private insurance company and funded by Medicare. These plans offer lower premiums, extra benefits and much more.

Medicare Part D (Rx)

Medicare Part D options are usually determined by which medications you take. Generally, Medicare Advantage has Part D included versus a Medicare Supplement, where a prescription drug plan would be added to cover medications you would receive at a pharmacy.

Medicare Supplement (Medi-gap)

With a Medicare Supplement plan, Medicare is the primary payer and the supplement is the secondary payer who fills in the gaps…hence the nickname “Medigap Plan”. These operate without a network. You can go to any doctor, clinic or hospital that accepts Medicare patients anywhere in the country.
